My dad was recently hospitalized. So I hopped in the Cardinal and sailed down to Raleigh, NC from Philly for a visit. The trip was only two and a half hours with a nice tailwind. Enjoying the freedom to hop in and go, my brother and I were able to fly out to Ocracoke Island after visiting dad and making sure he was OK. We spent a great day exploring the island, and came across a quote by Mark Twain nailed to the wall of one of the restaurants that really appealed to me.
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” – Mark Twain [Samuel Clemens]
We flew back to Raleigh the next day to celebrate father’s day in the hospital with dad, bringing him many gifts from Ocracoke. I think the gift he enjoyed most, though, was the story of our adventure. Look forward to his speedy recovery so he can join our next adventure.
